Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to develop a medical device that can prevent postoperative pancreatic fistula. The goal was that the product should be user-friendly, quickly and accurately visualize pancreatic leakage and thereby guide the surgeon to safer sealing. We have developed an indicator that visualizes pancreatic leakage within a minute of application. The product is non-toxic, easily broken down and eliminated by the body. We expect our indicator to reduce postoperative complications.
Expected long term effects
We have filed a patent application and received a first positive opinion. We have also done several in vivo and in vitro studies and have three scientific articles ready to be submitted. The first toxicological studies have shown positive results and we have begun the regulatory work. We expect our product to soon be used clinically, that it has potential for use in every pancreas surgery and that it significantly will reduce postoperative complications.
Approach and implementation
The reason we were able to keep our project plan depends on the combination of committed project workers and a standing dialogue with our German partner. This has minimized the waste of time as all progress generated by both parties has been addressed quickly between the two partners.
