Important results from the project
The project aims to develop a method for effective on-site identification of legacy additives in plastics prior to demolition, enhancing the elimination of plastics with hazardous compounds from the current production loop. This can increase the material recycling rates while on the same time phase out unwanted additives and directing them to proper recycling and treatment methods.
Expected long term effects
Samples from Tarkett were collected and analysed with conventional methods of identification. The techniques investigated for onsite measurements include: FTIR, Raman, LIBS, SPME-based MOSEC cell, NIR and Hyperspectral imaging technology. Collaboration with international partners, experts in legacy additives identification has been established.
Approach and implementation
Within this pre-study, no suitable technique has been found in order to detect phthalates in PVC-floors on-site. Several contacts and techniques have though been established and investigated. This has given more knowledge to the consortium and opened up for further paths to develop a method to meet the requirements.
