Important results from the project
This project continued the work with consolidating the national network for young researchers active in 2D-materials in Sweden that was initiated as a pilot-study in 2021. The project goals include building a national framework promoting exchanges and collaboration between young researchers and between academia and industry towards innovation in 2D materials. The network currently has roughly 45 members and eight universities represented. In 2023 a lunch-to-lunch workshop was held in Kolmården with 32 participants and seven presentations from industry representatives.
Expected long term effects
The initiative has been well received both from participating young researchers and from industry, and several collaborations linking academia and industry have been initiated as a result of project activities. A mobility grant that supports shorter exchanges or travels for the network members has been established, and 25 kSEK has been awarded to five young researchers. The strategic project continues in 2024 and the work ahead will target network consolidation and seeking solutions to continued activities after 2026.
Approach and implementation
As it has been difficult to find seeds for innovation, we have, in consultation with the network´s members, worked out changes in future activities and structure to promote a greater focus on exchanges and innovation barriers, achieved through subject-specific seminars where industry focuses on barriers and needs. These seminars are arranged so that younger researchers with projects in related fields initiate discussion with relevant industry. In addition, the network´s annual workshop is further extended to allow for more social activities and more spontaneous exchanges.
