Important results from the project
The project´s objective to define circular property development and what it means to do it right from the start was met. The project resulted in the Circularity Compass with accompanying guidance, which supports property developers in the early stages. The project has increased knowledge about circularity, identified new areas for development and highlighted the importance of digital tools, economic incentives and a broader systems perspective to accelerate the transition.
Expected long term effects
We believe that the results from the project can mean an increased focus on creating built environments with better conditions to function in a future where circular economy is the norm. This is because what is built with Circular Property Development as an ambition has a more long-term focus and not only solves a need and is profitable initially, but will also be able to meet future needs and be relevant and profitable over a longer time perspective.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out through literature studies, historical analysis and monitoring of Swedish and international initiatives. This was supplemented by workshops with academia and industry to test and further develop a common hypothesis about circular property development. The framework was then tested in interviews with property developers in real projects, which confirmed and adjusted our hypothesis. The biggest difficulty was to define and agree on a common hypothesis.
