Purpose and goal
The purpose is to eliminate some significant greenhouse gas emissions in steelmaking and beyond. The goal is to develop and demonstrate a process for converting CO2 into solid carbon using hydrogen gas (H2) and a metal catalyst. The specific objectives include to validate the feasibility of the conversion process, analyze the solid carbon´s properties to assess its suitability, evaluate the integration into steel production, and identify stakeholders and develop a proposal for scaling up.
Expected effects and result
The deliverables windividuellill include a literature review report on CO2 conversion, a proof-of-concept report from experimental tests, and a report detailing the process information along with a draft proposal for a full-scale project. The potential application of resulting solid carbon in steelmaking will be assessed in collaboration with consortium partners.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is carried out in collaboration between KTH Royal Institute of Technology, SSAB and Polestar. Four different work packages have been defined to highlight the problem and possible solutions. The work will mainly be carried out in Mission 0 House´s premises in Gothenburg and in KTH´s laboratory. Dialogue with external partners will take place in the form of 1:1 conversations, as well as through joint meetings where dialogue with several actors takes place simultaneously.
