Important results from the project
The project has fulfilled its objective to: - identify barriers and opportunities for efficient scaling up of electrification of forestry road transport, - develop a concept for a system demonstration, - establish a network and a collaboration platform.
Expected long term effects
The project identified barriers in: technology and vehicles (the technology is still unproven in the challenging environments of forestry); business models; planning; access to electricity and charging; system understanding and understanding of the impact of external factors. The most important opportunities identified are freedom from fossil fuels, better operating economics, and the possibility of being self-sufficient in energy. The project has led to the initiation of industry collaboration to overcome these barriers.
Approach and implementation
In the project, workshops, interviews and a literature study were carried out. Calculations of energy and power demand were made, and a simulation model for calculating the demand for power at potential charging points was made.
