Important results from the project

The project´s goals were met. A systematic analysis of eight international governance frameworks identified five structural gaps relevant to AI-enabled autonomous systems. This produced a peer-review-ready scientific contribution and established direct partnerships with leading US research institutions. Additional outcomes include a transatlantic network spanning research, policy, and industry, and a strategic foundation for continued Swedish-American collaboration in safe autonomy.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to contribute to a strengthened Swedish position in international standardization and governance of autonomous systems. The analytical basis can serve as a reference for authorities, operators and standardization bodies navigating the fragmented regulatory landscape. The partnership with leading American research institutions creates the conditions for a lasting transatlantic research relationship in an area that is a strategic priority for both the EU and the US.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out according to plan with two parallel tracks: analytical work and partner identification. Fieldwork in San Francisco and San Jose combined attendance at NVIDIA GTC and RSA Conference with bilateral meetings. The direct meetings with research professionals at PARC Forum was unplanned but became the project´s most important partner anchoring. The analytical basis was given a more formalized format than planned, which strengthened the credibility of the project.
