From data talk to data workshop for the public sector
Municipalities and regions must become better at making available and using open and shared data. It is the starting point for the national data workshop for regional and municipal data sharing, which is run by Västra Götalandsregionen. The investment has been extended - and will, among other things, continue to work with a top 100 list of particularly important data sets.
There is still far too little public open data in Sweden. That's what Tore Johnsson thinks, who is project coordinator at the Västra Götaland region (VGR), and is part of the steering group for the national data workshop for regional and municipal data sharing
- We help regions and municipalities build the ability to work with open and shared data. We do this through training initiatives, supporting measures, help and advice, says Tore Johnsson.
He explains that a particular focus has been placed on around 30 particularly important data sets. It is about everything from car parking and cycle paths to procurement, emissions and recycling stations
The project effort was originally supposed to be over already, but has been extended. During the extension, one will, among other things, invest in continuing to support regions and municipalities, but also work further with the top 100 list of valuable data sets.
- We focus on those who have a great interest and a clear need owner, but right now do not spend time and energy on updating the list itself because we are not yet ready, says Tore Johnsson.
In addition, the project must develop national data flows in collaboration and reduce the burden of reporting by focusing on more up-to-date, qualitative and valuable data. Another important point is to cooperate with the owners of needs - at the time of writing, it is about 11 different project. Tore Johnsson also promises that the data workshop will focus even more in the future on being part of the debate about open and shared data.
During the beginning of 2024, several webinars were held together with the Swedish Food Agency (food waste as open data) and eSam (automated data collection and the IT agreement day). Going forward, you will participate in, among other things, the Registrar's Days and the Sveriges Kart- and Mättekniska Förenings conference.
In the longer term, Tore Johnsson hopes that the computer workshop will get a permanent placement in some organization – for example, the digitization agency Digg.
