Purpose and goal

The aim is to implement a system innovation that leads to zero malnourished elderly in Sweden 2030. This will be done through pilot projects in two municipalities, Kävlinge and Stockholm with Enskede Årsta Vantör SDF. The goals are to increase the abilities for early identification of risk of malnutrition, increase the access to adapted meals, increase possibilities to eat with others and reduce loneliness, increase knowledge of food and meals among staff working with the elderly and develop cost estimates that compare the costs of prevention efforts with the costs of malnutrition.

Expected results and effects

Year 1-2 are expected to result in methods for early identification of malnourished elderly, reduced amount of malnourished through access to adapted meals, reduced loneliness, education and training demand for professions working with the elderly and a cost estimate for prevention of malnutrition in relation to the cost of malnutrition. The effects are that 100 municipalities in Sweden join the Zero Vision, the government provides increased support for educational efforts and that the number of malnourished people in the pilot municipalities has decreased.

Planned approach and implementation

Kävlinge and Stockholm Municipality (Enskede Årsta Vantör SDF) will be pilot municipalities. They will plan and implement pilot projects together with enterprises, universities and government agencies in order to develop an organization and metod that decrease the amount of malnourished elderly to zero. Pilot projects will be done within: Digital communication solutions, adapted meals, analysis of how governmental agency support for the elderly works, investigation of the demand of education and entrepreneurial development of metods that reduce loneliness.
