Important results from the project
Wingquist Laboratory was aiming to become an international research center for virtual product development. The Centre has today achieved: A) Good international network and international position B) Tight cooperation with Swedish industry C) New business opportunities for industry partners D) New products and companies in Sweden E) Increased equality in the research environment
Expected long term effects
Wingquist Laboratory has produced 92 journal publications, 228 conference papers, 50 doctoral dissertations and a large number of industrial evaluations, 35 of which have been industrialized. A total of 11 companies are today affiliated as industry partners. One of these is a spinoff company. More than 900 engineers have been trained in the software packages developed within the centre, and are now using them in their daily work. The virtual solutions that have come out of the research are contributing to a more sustainable industry.
Approach and implementation
The center has built-in mechanisms to encourage cooperation. Some of these are: * Matrix structure with four research groups and three interdisciplinary themes * Research issues are negotiated and formulated within themes with academic and industrial partners. The questions should be: - In the technical front (scientifically challenging) - Not company-specific (involving more than one company) - General (applicable to a variety of applications) * Focus on the general development process and not on company-specific products * Networks that transfer research results to OEMs
