Project duration July 2015 - June 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Winfoor has developed a new and revolutionary technology for wind turbine blades that can transform the entire wind power industry. The new technology, called Triblade, allows rotor blades to be longer, stronger and much lighter than current offerings, while reducing production costs and increasing ease of transport and installation. These are game changing improvements that gives Winfoor a unique on the rotor blade market. The project goals were to develop a complete and optimized design for Triblade and to verify the technology under real conditions through a pilot installation.

Expected results and effects

A rotor consisting of three rotor blades Triblade has been manufactured. The rotor diameter was 7.5 m, each Triblade weighed 5.5 kg and was made out of carbon fiber. The rotor was installed on a test turbine. The test showed good results and is a proof-of-concept for the technology. An important result is that the energy production was in agreement with our computer simulations. Winfoor has in the project strengthened its IPR and made significant progress in business development. A number of global wind turbine manufacturers are showing great interest in the technology.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was done in cooperation with the company´s different partners for development, production and testing. Winfoor has also had discussions with experts from some of the world´s largest wind turbine manufacturer, who has acted as advisors in the project. Having a good cooperation with these external partners has been essential for the success of the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
