Funding from Vinnova SEK 180 000
Project duration December 2012 - September 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The objective of this competition was to stimulate innovation built on open data in West Sweden. The project, through an innovation competition built around open data, should lead to the creation of five new products and ten new open data sources. A method for innovation should be developed and communicated. Three new products were submitted for the competition and a portal was created by Gothenburg City for their open data. Our own innovation method has been developed and communicated via the marketing around the competition.

Results and expected effects

The expected results have been partially achieved and an effect goal that was not earlier defined - to spread the message of and increase knowledge of open data. We have had close to 70 participants in our inspiration seminars and around 3000 individual visitors to our website. The network around ope data has been strengthened through these efforts.

Approach and implementation

Many activities have been completed during the project to build up a methodology. E.g. digital communication, partner packet, media packet, competition categories, competition rules, research and publishing of data sources, weekly blog posts etc. Activities organised include two physical inspiration seminars with together around 70 participants, plus one digital seminar. 14 teams registered for the competition, of which three submitted an entry. One reflection is that the longer form of the competition requires a high level of commitment from teams.
