Important results from the project
The goal of the project was to develop a strategy and method for placemaking with the public at the Vassara River in Gällivare, with the aim of improving the public space, inspiring and contributing with meaningful experiences, creating a sense of belonging and empowerment and increased engagement.
As the basis for this, we created a broad picture of the challenges and opportunities that exist in Gällivare. It is a complex story where many interests collide, where the past meets the future.
Expected long term effects
Our proposal covers the work in 2025, but we have a vision for how the process can continue until 2035. The discoveries we make in 2025 can help find new ways to use Älvrummet and serve as a pilot for a multi-year process where more permanent needs for Gällivare are explored. Our long-term vision is that Älvrummet develops into an area where local cultural history, stories, nature and creativity are highlighted and spread to other parts of Gällivare and Norrbotten.
Approach and implementation
The team consisted of people with different skills and nationalities based in different locations. This resulted in discussions in our regular meetings having many synergies that often led to new ideas.
The team´s starting point was to trust the process, i.e. keep it open and dynamic well into the production phase. We discovered new information quite close to the final delivery that caused changes late, but ultimately strengthened the proposal.
