Important results from the project
The project aimed to develop a resource-efficient method for knowledge transfer of battery repairs to service technicians for electrified vehicles using digital tools. Scania and DigitalNauts developed a scalable and repeatable training method without the need for physical models, heavy transportation or long-distance travel. Using Virtual Reality (VR) we created a simulation that can be installed on entry-level VR headsets that is easily updated with future simulations.
Expected long term effects
On an overall level, the project has succeeded in delivering on set scopes and objective. Course participants have proven to be generally receptive to this new technology and see it as a great step towards enabling the learning and repetition of the skills to be translated into safe, high-voltage work at Scania´s workshops.
Approach and implementation
The project aims to evaluate new simulation technology to reduce the use of physical hardware in practical training. The main question is whether service technicians can learn safe battery repairs in VR alone, assuming they are already certified for previous generations of Scania batteries. The project also investigates whether VR technology is scalable for battery training at Scania workshops. A case study shows that the participants achieve equivalent results as with previous training methods and consider the simulation to be sufficiently realistic.
