Important results from the project
Yes. We managed to do a preliminary quantification on how much changes on an underground mine ventilation can be made when BEVs are the main production machines. However, as described in the attached public final report, this quantification is only for one production area so it is still too early to conclude that this quantification is valid for the whole mine.
Expected long term effects
This project is expected to change how underground mine ventilation is designed when BEVs are used as the main production machines. This may include reducing the size of ventilation fans and developing new ventilation system to ventilate battery charging bays.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out in 4 work packages: 1. Literature review and field-testing preparation 2. Field testing of reducing airflow in the BEV trial area 3. Simulating ventilation of the BEV trial area 4. Identifying key challenges and writing project report These were found to be the right activities. Everything went according to the plan and timeline albeit with a slight change in how the airflow was varied as reported in the situation report. No external factors influencing the project.
