Purpose and goal

This project facilitates knowledge exchange between US and Swedish cities on connected urban freight solutions, focusing on zero-emission delivery zones and innovative last-mile delivery methods. Through virtual workshops, study visits, and participation in data standard working groups, the project will synthesize lessons learned, assess standardized data formats, and identify opportunities for future collaborative initiatives to advance sustainable urban logistics.

Expected effects and result

Expected results include a concise report synthesizing key insights from urban logistics initiatives in Portland and Helsingborg and an assessment of standardized data formats (MDS/CDS) implementation. Long-term effects will be enhanced urban logistics management through shared data standards, improved zero-emission zone implementation, and strengthened US-Swedish collaboration leading to more sustainable, efficient, and climate-neutral urban delivery systems.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is implemented through four work packages: 1) Virtual knowledge exchange with workshops between US and Swedish cities on technical, regulatory, and operational aspects of urban logistics. 2) Study visit where a Swedish delegation visits Portland to observe zero-emission delivery zones. 3) Participation in OMF working groups for CDS and MDS standards to contribute Swedish perspectives. 4) Project management, dissemination of results through two public webinars and a summary report.
