Venture Strategic Innovation Program Drive Sweden

Purpose and goal

The main goal of the Tunnll project was “to deploy a pilot service for Tunnll in a small Swedish city, validate the feasibility for passengers and efficiency gains for transport operators”. The covid-19 pandemic has essentially put all public transport traffic in a halt, we have completed technical-related Work Packages and adapted some other Work Packages to complete them during the pandemic. This allows us to continue working on the project even during the covid-19 restrictions and we are looking forward to launching the pilot service with operational buses after the pandemic is over.

Expected results and effects

The project has been able to fullfill the technical parts of the project. In order to test the technical development the project has created a test plattform. The Pilot Service Design is full filled. The application is developed in Android and is working according to the test dashboard. The test dashboard has valid the optimization of the buses according to recieved orders. The Project has not been able to validate the business model due to the COVID-19.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was designed as a feasibility study of an ICT technology with a new business model. The actual implementation followed the initial design plan, starting with passenger demand research, User Experience research and design and continued with software systems planning, design and development. Due to covid-19 pandemic limitations the implementation of deploying the software system with the operational buses has been delayed. However, the project has the necessary vehicles (2 buses) and personnel in place to test and run the designed service once the pandemic is over.
