Important results from the project

The goals have been met. Acheiving a greater understanding of what contributes to the target group feeling safer in public environments. A large number of methods have been co-created and tested during the development of the design principles. A toilet where user-friendly design has been the highest priority is in use. Digital learning forums have contributed to increasing knowledge about cognitive disorders and the project process, which has created new national and international contacts.

Expected long term effects

The goal is that the target group will take part in the public outdoor environment to a greater extent, and that adaptations for dementia friendly public toilets are made on a larger scale throughout the country. In the long term, it should be easy to obtain information about cognitive illness and for representatives of municipal and regional activities and non-profit forces to be connected in this work.

Approach and implementation

The working group has followed the steps of participant-based research. Digital learning forums were used to exchange knowledge and experiences. Design and operational expertise was used in the co-creation with the target group. The development and establishment of the toilet required compromises and adaptations in relation to the city´s and supplier´s preconditions. The time plan was adjusted. The activities that were carried out created momentum, commitment and results.
