Important results from the project

The project explored how proximity to "living, working, caring, enjoying, learning & supplying" can be created in rural areas and how collaboration between actors can promote this. Based on shifts in the surrounding world, which could potentially affect this, seven future stories were created as inspiration. To support actors in creating this future together, a conversation tool (card deck) was developed with reflection questions and examples of functional and social modules that support this.

Expected long term effects

The project´s results can inspire and facilitate dialogue about development in rural and sparsely populated areas with actors from the state, municipality, region, business, civil society and citizens. The Future stories and the Conversation tool can both spark conversations about what kind of future we want to see and inspire new concrete solutions. The results can also be used to highlight which structures, working methods and policies need to change to make this future possible.

Approach and implementation

The future stories and the conversation tool were developed through a series of dialogues, with citizens, village associations, mobility experts, politicians, businesses and rural developers in municipalities and regions. The workshops held in Boden municipality were complemented by three digital meetings where stakeholders from all over the country participated. The purpose was to create an exchange of knowledge, dissemination of results and space for more people to give input to the project.
