Important results from the project
The project aims to establish a national center for research and education on public transport where academia, public and private actors meet to discuss and develop the role of public transport in Sweden. Within the center, research is being conducted on how public transport can contribute to the sustainable metropolitan regions of the future. Education is provided for public transport actors and knowledge is disseminated so that the debate on public transport is conducted on a scientific basis. The center is based on a partnership where both academia and internships participate.
Expected long term effects
The project has resulted in 114 new research projects focusing on public transport. The project has involved about 100 researchers. New research collaboration has been established. New relationships have also been established between academia and practice. A number of courses have been developed and implemented. A survey shows that 85% of the respondents took part in at least one research report from the center, that 77% learned something new by taking part in the research, and that 50% meant that the research influenced the design or organization of public transport.
Approach and implementation
The project has been set up as a center formation with a partner compound board of directors and a center management responsible for the operational work. A joint research agenda has been developed. It has been the basis for the many research projects that have been identified and implemented. An important part of the work has been to work in collaboration between researchers and public transport´s actors. In the implementation, it has also been important to create meetings between different actors and to increase the communication of research results with a public transport approach.
