Important results from the project

In January, we introduced the School Stop -a mobility concept envisioning a car-free society where schools handle student transport. Together with students and teachers, we explored this idea during a week at Herstön. Students found the School Stop inspiring, calming, and wanted to see it in more places around Luleå. Teachers viewed it as an extension of the classroom—an unexpected but exciting direction for future learning environments.

Expected long term effects

"I think it´s good because it means we kids also get to have a say in society, not just adults," says Juviana, a sixth-grade student at Hertsöskolan. Juviana´s voice is one of many we hope will be heard in future mobility debates. Our long-term goal is for our future prototype to spark less talk and more action toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and healthy urban and mobility development.

Approach and implementation

Through the direct participation of children, valuable insights were gathered about their actual needs and ideas for how they want their school journey and school environment to look like. Using a behavior-driven design process, a future prototype was developed that allowed students and teachers to concretely experience and test a potential future scenario. This provided a better understanding of the needs and behaviors that arise in a more health-promoting mobility and school environment.
