Important results from the project
The project aimed to explore, compare, and learn from two on-demand pilots in different contexts, with the goal of establishing long-term collaboration between project partners in the USA and Sweden. The objectives were met. The project led to new research questions and international networks, student engagement, research exchanges, ongoing scientific publication, presentations, conference participation, and increased knowledge of on-demand solutions for more sustainable future mobility.
Expected long term effects
The project has laid the foundation for continued research on on-demand public transport, with a focus on inclusive and efficient solutions. It has created new international networks, promoted student engagement and research exchanges, and contributed to knowledge dissemination. In the long term, the results may influence the planning and implementation of more sustainable and inclusive future mobility solutions.
Approach and implementation
The research project was carried out as a comparative case study of two demand-responsive public transport solutions – MARTA Reach in Atlanta and Plusresa in Skåne. Methods included literature overview, stakeholder interviews, and site visits in Sweden and the USA with the full research team. The collaboration worked well and led to new possibilities. The project laid the foundation for a long-term, inspiring partnership between Sweden and the USA.
