Important results from the project
The aim, to test and develop different prototypes for study and office work outdoors and to investigate what is required of planning and design to promote different types of work tasks outdoors has been fulfilled. Prototypes have been developed in consultation with intended users and are thoroughly tested and revised based on requests. The goal that more people choose to work and study outdoors and that the use of the established outdoor workplaces has increased the work/study motivation of employees and students has been fulfilled, based on interviews with students and officials.
Expected long term effects
The purpose, to develop different prototypes for studies and office work outdoors and examining what is required of planning and design to promote different types of outdoor tasks, has been fulfilled. Prototypes have been developed and evaluated. The goal is that more people choose to work outdoors and that this can increase work/study motivation. This is studied through questionnaire follow-ups, participatory observations and interviews. We have collected insights to offer and implement the design of outdoor working spaces in built environments.
Approach and implementation
The project has been carried out through several actors and collaborations, also with communication in several channels. The project has been evaluated through both online questionnaires to several involved actors, and specifically to students and teachers and interviews. SLU researchers evaluate the project and are working on two scientific articles describing the overall process and the development. They are also developing a fact sheet with implications and recommendations for policy development on working and study environments outdoors.
