Important results from the project

We achieved our goal of including 50 parents in the project, but there was a high dropout rate. 24 parents completed the project. Those were generally positive about the informational material "The Food Adventure". They reported that it was inspiring and encouraged them to introduce foods to their children that are associated with allergies. Some expressed a desire for more recipes and would have preferred an app. The child health center (BVC) nurses said that the project addressed a real need.

Expected long term effects

Our hope is that this pilot project will serve as a foundation for a larger initiative. We have gained many important insights and learnings that we can utilize moving forward, particularly when drafting applications for continued funding. Through the project, we also established connections with several child health centers (BVC) across the country. This network will be valuable in the next phase. It is likely that we will also write a scientific communication to share what we have learned.

Approach and implementation

We developed an informational resource – The Food Adventure – as support for parents introducing their babies to food. BVC invited parents to access the material. Through digital surveys, we evaluated the materials impact on parents and their experiences with it. Unexpectedly, few parents chose to participate in the project and complete it. At the same time, BVC reported that the need for a support resource is significant and that many parents were very positive to the invitation.
