Important results from the project
By intensifying the work in two socio-economically vulnerable schools, with an increased IUG attendance at physical education lessons as well as break and after-school activities, student participation increased. The students experienced the lessons as inspiring and felt acknowledged. The number of student violations also halved the days IUG conducted break activities. This has led to further development of the method, through increased collaboration with schools, and a more structured methodology. The new methodology has also been spread to all locations where IUG is active.
Expected long term effects
The results of the project have led to the methodology being further developed to strengthen quality and impact. This through increased collaboration with schools and teachers to ensure that the activities meet the needs that exist, by appointing a committed contact person within the school and above all by clarifying who is the priority target group within each activity. The project has also resulted in an internal knowledge transfer where the IUG team shares best practice. The new methodology has been spread to all locations where IUG is active.
Approach and implementation
In agreement with Malmö City education administration, the schools Apelgård and Väner Rydén were selected for the project. The implementation was led by IUG´s local operations manager and was carried out during three semesters by locally based sports leaders. At the end of the first semester, the first collection of data began, which was then followed by further collections throughout the project, before the final outcome measurement was conducted during the spring semester 2021. The new insights then formed the basis for the further developed method and outcome measurement report.
