Project duration August 2014 - January 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project is to create a test bed in Bergslagen. Together with other participants a test environment for the tools, methods and systems for a mine all processes, from mining to finished product. In combination with the world- leading expertise in electricity and smart grids available in the region, this is a strong base to build our testbed the ultimate goal of the project is to create a test bed for a mine that uses less energy per ton of finished product than any other mine in the world testbed is under construction and will be commercialized during Phase 2 of the project

Results and expected effects

The result of the project, so far, shows that there is good potential to build a testbed for energy supply for mining. The Interest among the participants are great and several new companies and organizations have joined the project. Energy Surveys show that there are great opportunities to test and develop existing and new processes, technologies and equipment in test bed that will ultimately lead to improved energy efficiency and energy savings and reduced CO2 emissions. Model for commercialization of the Testbed is defined and the simulation models are evaluated.

Approach and implementation

During the project, specifications for a test bed and a plan for how ownership and business model should look like is produced Extensive energy surveys are completed and simulation program that can be used to simulate mining has been tested System to test the dynamic load capacity of the power network has been prepared for installation Business intelligence analysis shows that the potential for growth and export opportunities are great Letter of intent has been signed between the actors and a specification of how the test bed can contribute energy and environment benefits has been defined
