Important results from the project
Today, there is no mining company that has managed to run all the sub-moments required for tunneling with a combination of teleoperated and autonomous machines. The mining process can be speeded up, thereby increasing productivity. Possibilities also open up to extract hitherto unminable ore, which for personal safety reasons is not conceivable today, which in the long run can strengthen Sweden´s competitiveness. In the project, the parties have built knowledge in, automation, tele-op, security and communication infrastructure, to take a big step towards a commercial solution.
Expected long term effects
In the project, the parties have together built very valuable knowledge in many areas such as automation, teleoperation (camera placement, network, HMI), streamlining the salvo cycle for tunneling, security and communication infrastructure, with an overall objective of taking a big step towards a commercial solution. A main goal was a functioning demonstrator, which was partly delivered within the project and has been tested in production. The knowledge developed is expected to be part of a future commercial solution.
Approach and implementation
The project was run agilely with frequent project meetings, usually weekly. As the project was divided into different sub-goals / work packages, the project group was divided into smaller groups to cover the different areas of responsibility in an efficient manner. Since the project had access to several sets of machines, they were tested both in Eskilstuna and in Boliden to have an efficient development and utilization rate. The project group has been actively on site in the mine from start to finish throughout the project with a focus on start-up and initial tests.
