Purpose and goal
With a vision of increased societal benefit and increased competitiveness for Swedish industry and the public sector via the investments in the large-scale research infrastructures ESS and MAX IV, SPIRIT´s aim and objective is to: Stimulate and facilitate competence and knowledge transfer from academic research to industry and other sectors for increased industrial use of ESS and MAX IV. Enable collaboration between academia and industry/public sector to effectively use and develop the unique tools offered at MAX IV and ESS to tackle global challenges.
Expected effects and result
Establishment of a neutral and inclusive arena, which makes available and promotes the use of large scale facilities nationally and internationally. To achieve that, a national coordination of universities and university colleges, industrial actors, research institutes, mediators, other national and regional research and innovation infrastructures, expert environments, and actors is required. SPIRIT builds on and develops the necessary structures, functions and work methods from previous phases and creates the conditions for a broader and more long-term investment.
Planned approach and implementation
The focus of SPIRIT Phase I is the mapping the industry´s needs and developing collaboration models that can meet the industry´s needs regarding the use of large-scale research infrastructure. The mapping of needs and the dialogue with industrial actors will be carried out through the further development of pilot activities defined in previous reports, especially competence building and advanced user support. The work will be carried out through collaboration with other actors, established research centers, institutes and initiatives.
