Important results from the project

The purpose of the Innovation Idea Competition was to identify and encourage SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) to actively participate in SIP SMI activities, to broaden the program´s SME network and to act as a meeting point between SMEs and larger companies. The aim was to select the winners of this year´s competition, whose innovative ideas will contribute to the sector and a sustainable mining industry. The Innovation Idea Competition and pitch event in Luleå on June 4th, was carried out according to plan and two winning entries were selected by the jury.

Expected long term effects

The results of the follow-up evaluation showed that the Innovation Idea Competition is and has been an appreciated and valuable activity for the participating SMEs. The pitch event became a meeting point between SMEs and larger companies, created new networks and opportunities for new innovation partners. Although targeted actions were implemented, there was no increased number of applications from women.

Approach and implementation

Planning in the project group started in mid-November 2023. Communication efforts for the competition started at an early stage including Linkedin, newsletter and website. The jury selected eight entries to go forward to the pitch event held on June 4 in Luleå. Consultations to all applicants were offered after the selection process, conducted by two business developers as well as an evaluation of the event.
