Important results from the project

We aimed to study the factors that influence people’s experiences of safety and control in combination journeys involving cycling and public transport, to create a complete and seamless journey. The goal was to gain a deeper understanding of the human perceptual experience within the transport system. We managed to shed light on people’s experiences of combination journeys in a way deemed valuable in itself, and have developed recommendations and solutions to explore further in the next phase.

Expected long term effects

There is significant potential to increase combination travel at medium-sized stations with dispersed development, as a larger proportion of travelers can be reached within cycling distance, and the connecting bus services are not as extensive as at major stations. Towns like Båstad, Landskrona, Kristianstad, and Ängelholm, with a high share of the population within cycling distance and a large number of residents within cycling reach, making these suitable to test solutions in the next phase.

Approach and implementation

The method had three parts: qualitative interviews with travelers and experts on combination journeys, a potential assessment with an analysis of all train stations in Skåne, and the development of recommendations and proposed solutions to increase the willingness to continue combination journeys. Progress was consistently positive - the project goal was achieved, resulting in a deeper understanding of the perceptual factors that influence the traveler’s experience and measures for improvement.
