Status Completed

Important results from the project

The project fulfilled the essential goal of improving resistance calibrations by developing graphene-based quantum Hall arrays (QHARS). Accurate precision measurements showed that they are the most accurate arrays to date. In the future, QHARS may replace today´s artifact standards and allow calibration of a wide range of resistances directly against a primary quantum standard. Our QHARS has also begun to see use outside of Sweden, and is now used by international research and industry partners.

Expected long term effects

Despite its advantages over traditional quantum resistance standards, QHARS have historically not been widely used due to the difficulty in fabricating large arrays with high quantization accuracy. This project has developed the necessary technology to create QHARS with excellent performance and the capability to cover a large resistance range. This paves the way for QHARS to start becoming established as a primary quantum standard and eventually reach a wider industry.

Approach and implementation

At the start, the plan was to develop the technology to fabricate QHARS and test their performance. The next step was to further develop the methods to produce arrays with decade values and use these to improve resistance calibration at RISE. Our QHARS exceeded expectations and quickly attracted interest from industry. The project focused more on improving QHARS and making them more user-friendly. The goal for realization of ampere will be tackled in a newly started project.
