Important results from the project
The objective of the project is to develop a high-performance stretchable battery that uses sustainable materials and processes to tackle the environmental challenges of using finite raw materials and non-biodegradable electronics waste.
Expected long term effects
We have reported three key papers that demonstrates not only high performance (mechanical and electrochemical) but encompasses the use of sustainable plant-based materials for key battery components. We also published a perspective article covering the topic of “Sustainable Stretchable Batteries for Next-generation Wearables”. The article provided a critical analysis of the technological challenges facing mechanically compliant batteries and provides a direction for future developments.
Approach and implementation
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** We demonstrated a method to increase battery capacitance without seriously affecting their mechanical properties. The use of biodegradable materials as battery components, mainly plant-based, resulted in a battery that is suitable for wearable devices with low energy requirements and can be disposed of safely without affecting the environment.
