Important results from the project
The project aimed to install a system consisting of stereo cameras and built-in perception software at a relevant installation location on KTH´s campus. Furthermore, the goal was to use the data from the system as a basis for future research projects. After quite a few challenges, we were able to get an installation in the place we wanted most and have an installation in good condition that has good conditions to be able to form a base of relevant data for future research projects. More information is still needed about the possibilities of using the installation.
Expected long term effects
The expected results and effects were that it would be possible to detect and position objects in the measuring area with high performance and that it could be used as a basis for future research projects. Detection and positioning seem to work very well, although no deeper analysis of the results has been done yet. That the installation can be used for future projects has already been shown with the ongoing integration with CART and ENTICE as well as the planned follow-up project SAFE. In discussions with industrial customers, we also see opportunities to use the installation.
Approach and implementation
The project was planned in three phases - planning and permits, installation and software development, and spreading knowledge. The first phase took much longer than planned, which led to a lot of software development having to be done before the installation was in place. The installation phase itself went clearly faster than expected and the part with spreading knowledge was divided into several parts, a number of which will be done after the project end.
