SIO program for Metallic Materials

Reference number
Coordinator Jernkontoret
Funding from Vinnova SEK 8 749 000
Project duration December 2013 - September 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim is to catalyse a national mobilisation, in and around the metal industry, based on the industry research agenda with the vision that the Swedish metal industry should be a key element in the global pursuit to shape a better future. An effect-logic, 7 steps for increased competitiveness, has been identified. During 2013-2016 the program was established, the organisation was created and multiple efforts has been conducted. The program was evaluated in 2016 with good results. Special efforts was made in 2017 for coordination with the governments innovation partnership programme.

Expected results and effects

Seven open calls (two in collaboration with other SIP) was conducted during the period. A total of 70 projects has started and multiple activities conducted. Even though several projects are still in progress, interesting results have already been achieved. The program has contributed to the emergence of new ideas and collaborations. Program representatives from different SIP communicate regularly, reducing the risk for overlap and duplication of effort, strengthening the support of the various programs activities.

Planned approach and implementation

Jernkontoret administers the program, subject to a program board, with support from an agenda council whose competence covers all seven areas. A continuous and critical dialogue between actors in the area is maintained and actions that complement the normal efforts are conducted. Meetings with innovation partnership programme 5 was held to clarify priorities, opportunities to implement them and to describe ongoing and planned efforts. Actions corresponding to the priorities have been prepared and preliminary studies has been carried out. This created trust between the programs.
