Purpose and goal

SIO Grafen´ objective is that Sweden is one of the leading countries in developing and using 2D materials to create benefit in society. Our long-term impact goals: 2D materials are a Swedish industrial area of strength. The Swedish ecosystem for 2D materials is attractive and expedient. Strong Swedish production of 2D materials. 2D materials are enablers for the transition to a sustainable society.

Expected effects and result

Over 10 years, the program has built up a well-functioning ecosystem, created a competitive project portfolio with research-based applications on the way to commercialization, contributed to growing deeptech companies and started to create a framework for the area. In phase 4, the degree of maturity is developed further with demonstrator projects and strategic project. In 2026, a membership program that manages the ecosystem going forward will be launched. With advanced materials as common, ties are created to nearby programme and arenas nationally and at EU level.

Planned approach and implementation

The SIO Grafens board is responsible for the strategic management of the program. The board works closely with the program office at Chalmers Industriteknik, with the operational responsibility for running the program according to the effect logic. In phase 4, we continue to develop the program by: Broaden towards new programmes Improve the conditions for investment in deeptech Continue to communicate opportunities with 2D materials Connect to the EU´s upcoming material program Secure the future of the ecosystem
