Important results from the project

Strategic innovation program SIO Grafens third phase, 2021 2023. Long-term objective: - 2D materials are a Swedish industrial strength area - The Swedish ecosystem for 2D materials is attractive and effective - Strong Swedish manufacturing of 2D materials - 2D materials are an enabler for the transition to a sustainable society During phase 3, the area has made great efforts towards the long-term goals, with more mature projects, new actors and strategic efforts. Sweco´s nine-year evaluation in 2023 says "SIO Grafen has been of strategic value for an immature area".

Expected long term effects

Nine calls for proposals resulting in 45 project have been carried out, eleven strategic project initiated. Project portfolio has shifted towards higher TRL, 29% of funding has gone to demonstrator projects. The 2D materials ecosystem is growing. During phase 3, 66 new actors were added. Deeptech companies and small and medium-sized companies are the largest actor group. Communication of results from the project and actors has been a focus. 78 press releases, three Swedish Graphene Forum, exhibition of demonstrators at Graphene Week 2023 and attention in radio and newspapers.

Approach and implementation

SIO Grafen is an open and inclusive platform for everyone who works with 2D materials. The program is based on the effect logic with six main activities aimed at the goals: - Strategic work, program management and learning - Calls for proposals and project support - Reduce obstacles for the area - Communication - Eco system Research intelligence The program office reports to the board at minimum four annual meetings and at a joint strategy workshop. At the annual general assembly, the year´s work is reported to the 48 members and a new board is elected.
