Important results from the project

The goal has been to create an understanding of Shared spaces from a human perspective and human diversity in order to implement this in urban planning. Together with a group of the population that is excluded from this urban space, obstacles in the physical environment have been analyzed from a neurological perspective. The result is preliminary design principles of Shared spaces with regard to people´s health and cognitive accessibility. The result is important for continued research

Expected long term effects

The preliminary principles are expected to contribute to the design of urban spaces to promote inclusion and health. In addition, the expected effects are that it contributes to more and further in-depth research in neurodesign in urban spaces can be carried out, particular areas that are currently perceived as challenging for people to use. Based on the results and continued research, the expectations are that cities will increasingly consider a human, inclusive and health-promoting perspective

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out in three blocks, which were effective Data collection: Participants were recruited to use Eye-tracking and Barrier Walkthrough-method to collect experiences about the place Analysis of data: From a neurodesign perspective, experiences of the places were analyzed to identify challenges, obstacles and opportunities in the urban space Design of preliminary principles: Together with analysis and knowledge in traffic planning, preliminary design principles were developed
