Purpose and goal

The project aims to develop an attractive and scalable alternative to the private car through a digitally integrated solution for shared multimodal travel. The goal is to enable seamless transportation by bus, ferry and shared taxi to and from Gotland, as well as to pre-design autonomous transportation for the first and last mile, with a particular focus on accessibility in sparsely populated areas.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to lead to a functioning pilot solution that integrates booking, payment and planning for trips by bus, ferry and taxi. The results include new collaboration and business models for key actors contributing to the solution, which is expected to lead to increased vehicle utilization and reduced climate footprint. The research is also expected to lead to knowledge about how autonomous vehicles can contribute to transport accessibility and efficiency.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consists of four work packages. (1) Project management, coordination, communication and dissemination; (2) Technical development of system solution; (3) Research: Business models and scalability with autonomous vehicles; and (4). The parties collaborate to develop, test and evaluate the solution in a real environment. Data from the pilot is used to pre-project autonomous transportation and analyze further use and scale-up.
