Important results from the project

The project´s objective is to design and manufacture the roll-to-roll printed energy storage to then build integrated units with solar cells/sensors and evaluate these in a relevant environment to map functionality and performance. The challenge is to minimize the number of manufacturing steps to obtain a cost-effective product that can be mass-produced at high degree of automation. We assess the goal fulfillment as very high, all objectives have been achieved with a margin at the end of the project. This is proven by manufacturing, testing of components, and working system demos.

Expected long term effects

Measured component performance of semi-industrial components has managed to reproduce performance of the manually produced components to 100%. The expectations are to be better than the "handmade" components. We now have control over repeatability and quality variations from the V2022 mode. Stabilized product quality and sensitivity awareness are decisive results from the project - as well as a good picture of product cost and industrial process for volume production. Developed method and component have potential to provide a decisive environmental impact in mass production.

Approach and implementation

Progress in the project has been secured with regular project meetings, plan reconciliations, and an active project team. After completing work package 1, the project has in practice worked more iteratively in "sprints" - work packages 2, 3, 4 and 5 - than the original project plan intended. This has meant that process and product design have been adjusted in an effective way and that goal fulfillment has been better than expected - i.e. better product performance and a lower estimated product cost.
