Call Impact Innovation: Increased resource efficiency and resilience, stage 1

Important results from the project

The project has been very successful and all set objective have been achieved. The project was stage one of two in a project that aims to build a pilot plant for chemical recycling of textiles to new nanomaterials. During stage 1, the design, location, and cost of the pilot plant have been determined. Target markets and target applications have been identified and prioritized. TEA and LCA carried out. Process testing and verification have taken place. New value chains have been created.

Expected long term effects

CelluCircle intends to design, build and operate full-scale facilities for chemical recycling of textiles. Both phases of the project constitute a key part of the commercialization towards full-scale production. The well-implemented first phase has created the opportunity to put together a strong consortium for the successful implementation of phase 2 and thus the entire project. During phase 2, a pilot plant will be built and commissioned and materials will be verified at the customer.

Approach and implementation

The project (stage 1) was structured in four work packages - all were implemented according to schedule and all objectives were met. The work packages focused on market validation, design/cost for pilot plant, TEA and LCA. Textile recycling is highly topical and of great public interest. This has had a positive impact on the implementation of the project. The collaboration with project partners and other stakeholders has worked very well and the established networks look forward to stage 2.
