Research institute exhibition stand at Nordic rail 2013

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to organise and manage a joint research stand at the Elmia Nordic Rail fair in Jönköping. The aim of this was to spread information and research results from the research organisations VTI, Chalmers/Charmec, the railway group at the Royal Institute of Technology and JVTC at Luleå University. To have a joint research stand at the fair makes our organisations more noticeable compared to separate stands. All the exhibitors have given information to the visitors both via information material in the stand (posters & printed matter) as well as fruitful conversations.

Results and expected effects

The participation in the stand at the Nordic Rail fair has resulted in new contacts for the exhibitors and meetings with existing contacts as well as information dissemination. With a total of 4095 visitors at the fair, the possibility of reaching out to many people was good. The size of the stand has contributed to that our organisations came into view for the visitors on the fair. The stand personnel, for most part PhD students, expressed that they had gathered many new contacts and also met existing ones. They also expressed that the fair itself (exhibitors and lectures) was very fruitful.

Approach and implementation

All exhibitors had information about their organisation to show in the fair stand and the implementation of the stand should be seen as successful. The exhibitors succeeded in informing visitors through conversations and information material. The placement of the stand was at a section where many visitors passed by, which contributed to many visitors in the stand. A few mishaps in the communication between from the project manager led to a bit of confusion among the exhibitors and could have been prevented by more clear info from the project manager.
