Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 624 250
Project duration December 2024 - May 2026
Status Ongoing

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project is to increase knowledge and highlight the opportunities and values of transforming existing buildings into new functions together with property owners, architects, structural engineers, antiquarians, municipalities, authorities, researchers, etc. The goal is to get a clearer picture of what stands in the way of transforming buildings. The aim is also to develop proposals for concrete measures to reduce barriers for transformation

Expected effects and result

That the new knowledge about transformation produced within the framework of the project leads to behavioural changes and new ways of working in the construction and real estate industry, which increases the pace of the transition to a more climate-neutral and resource-efficient society. The project´s proposals for adjustments in policies may in the long term lead to fewer demolitions and more transformation projects, as well as increased innovation linked to transformation.

Planned approach and implementation

The interdisciplinary teams will identify areas where national policy, culture, methods, business models or other inhibitions of innovation and what can/should be changed to promote sustainability and innovation. The teams develop sketches, prototypes, simulations, or pilots to visualize and test their solutions. The teams´ tests and analysis are processed with the support of an expert group consisting of researchers and architecture, construction and real estate representatives.
