Purpose and goal
The project focuses on the plastic value chain for fishing gear, emphasizing systems for handling end-of-life equipment. Despite the introduction of producer responsibility for plastic-containing gear, infrastructure and financial incentives are largely lacking. The goal is to propose scalable, practical solutions for logistics, sorting, and recycling, aiming for a circular system and a sustainable fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Expected effects and result
The project aims to increase knowledge about systemic conditions and financial incentives for effective infrastructure for handling fishing gear. It will result in recommendations for collection and sorting systems, enhancing the potential for plastic recycling. Together, we will also develop shared commitments and an action plan for continued development and implementation of sustainable plastic flow solutions in the sector.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is divided into four work packages, each addressing key challenges in transitioning to a sustainable plastic flow in the fishing and aquaculture gear value chain. By exploring issues related to infrastructure, user needs, and market conditions, and analyzing barriers while identifying new business opportunities and collaboration, the project lays the groundwork for a sustainable plastic flow in the sector.
