End-of-project report 2021-02103svenska.pdf(pdf, 300 kB) (In Swedish)

Important results from the project

1. Lithium-ion battery cell modules and power electronics circuits have been designed. 2. Control software and hardware for voltage tracking and current sharing have been designed. 3. According to Volvo’s communication and software convention, relevant equipment and a low-level control environment have been set up. 4. A mathematical model of the physical system has been developed and optimal control strategies have been designed to optimize charging and discharging power for different time horizons.

Expected long term effects

The project contained research topics of designing reconfigurable battery modules and electric power conversion systems, designing control and communication functionalities, and verifying the implemented functionalities. The research presented a comprehensive design and analysis of a reconfigurable battery system, including hardware, software, control, and communication architectures. The design satisfied the specific demands related to voltage and current within an energy storage system.

Approach and implementation

We provided a reconfigurable battery system considering performance, lifetime, safety, reliability, and efficiency. According to the specifications, we proposed a system architecture for hardware, software, and communication. The project was broken down into ten work packages and they were organized considering the dependencies. We proposed several test cases to validate the functionalities. The system was tested and the test data was logged and analyzed. The specifications were confirmed by analyzing the test data.
