ProNova VINN Excellence Centre for Protein Technology Etapp 3

Reference number
Coordinator KUNGLIGA TEKNISKA HÖGSKOLAN - ProNova VINN Excellence Centre for Protein Technology
Funding from Vinnova SEK 21 000 000
Project duration April 2012 - March 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The motivation and aim since the start of the project has been to create and maintain a network and internationally competitive and multidisciplinary centre for protein technology that generates results of value for the centre parties as well as the society. A particular goal has been to use the unique access to the large scale antibody and antigen resource from the Human Protein Atals project to generate value and impact for Swedish Life Science companies.

Results and expected effects

As examples of obtained results, the discovery of serum biomarker candidates for liver and kidney injuries and the identification of a new autoantigen for multiple sclerosis can be mentioned. Further, advances have been made related to technologies for site-specific labeling antibodies, epitope mapping of antibodies, immune-based diagnostics for Point-of-care settings, DNA-based immuno assays and high throughput droplet based screening of biological samples in microfluidic stations.

Approach and implementation

Stage 3 has involved 10-12 companies from the Life Science sector that have been collaborating with research groups at School of Biotechnology at KTH. The Centre has had a unique access to large collections of antibodies and antigens from the Human Protein Atlas project. Seminars/workshops/Centre Days have been held to promote networking between the parties of the Centre and also to the national platforms at the Science for Life laboratories in Uppsala and Stockholm.
