Important results from the project
The pre study aimed to create a common understanding of the current situation and need of new testbeds in three prioritized application areas, autonomous mining, autonomous airport and process industry (conversion to circular industry) and a fourth generic digital infrastructure "the digital domain". The focus has been on identifying the need for infrastructure investments but also the identification of "common capabilities" within the three application areas and how these can be implemented. These have been clarified during the pre study and are part of the final report.
Expected long term effects
The results of the pre study are expected to serve as input for future calls & special initiatives within the digitalization program. For respective application, the pre study have resulted in understanding of main challenges and how they can be met in the short / medium / long term and a description of how existing infrastructure and programmes can be used and coordinated with new initiatives. An expert group for the digital domain has been initiated and steering groups for the other domains are planned to be created to secure the need of future digital infrastructure and capabilities.
Approach and implementation
The pre study was expected to be carried out in three overall phases: analysis, design and anchoring phase. In the analysis phase, the work included workshops and interviews to identify expectations among the project parties and the current situation in the selected domains. In the design phase, the focus was on identifying the necessary “capabilities” and need for new infrastructure and technology based on the current situation. In the anchoring phase, overall roadmaps were summarized. All results were anchored, documented and presented at the final seminar.
