Purpose and goal

Plastic is a good material, but it is used in an unsustainable way. We must radically change the way we produce, use and circulate plastic materials to reduce their climate impact. PackLOOP wants to increase the circular use of commercial and industrial (C&I) plastic packaging in closed loops. The project aims to improve the conditions for closed loops to be established as an accepted way of managing plastic among manufacturers and users of C&I packaging.

Expected effects and result

• Actors who use and handle C&I plastic packaging are engaged in a joint effort to involve more stakeholders, spread knowledge and develop closed loops for material recycling, and develop a vision with measurable objectives. • Start dialogue and development of an innovative and joint system for communication and take-back of separately sorted plastic fractions. • Increased knowledge of different systemic conditions for developing a joint take-back system for C&I plastic packaging.

Planned approach and implementation

1. Mobilize a critical mass of actors, develop a vision and clear objectives to establish closed loops as an accepted way of working in the packaging industry. 2. Start a joint innovative system that facilitates the collection of sorted C&I plastic packaging waste from end users in a cost-effective manner. 3. Analysis of obstacles and conditions for the realization of such a system.
