Venture Behavioral changes in the mobility system
Call Investigate, develop and test behavior-changing solutions that contribute to climate-neutral and healthy travel habits

Important results from the project

The aim has been to investigate whether nudging can increase the use of shared mobility services, specifically car pool, as a way to accelerate the transition to a transport-efficient society with reduced private car use and car ownership. Based on the new knowledge, target group-adapted nudges that steer towards an increased use of car pool services have been designed, which in the long run can contribute to the development of functional tools that permanently change travel habits in a more sustainable direction.

Expected long term effects

The project has led to deepening the knowledge in nudging to understand how the method can be used to get more residents to use mobility services to a greater extent, which creates long-term better conditions for all the investments in real estate services that are currently being implemented. Six nudges have been designed that are judged to have a high implementation potential and that solve identified decision situations. The nudges are described based on behavioral insight, decision situation, need owners, as well as follow-up and evaluation.

Approach and implementation

Residents in two of Riksbyggen´s tenant-owner associations have been interviewed. The two associations were selected because they have access to a car pool at their accommodation and are "ordinary" apartment buildings. The interviews have been analyzed according to the "Behavior Journey" and have been the basis for designing nudges that respond to identified obstacles and decision situations. In a follow-up project, the nudges can be tested, developed and evaluated to assess which initiatives lead to increased use of the car sharing services.
