Night Owl: For security and safety in festivals

Purpose and goal

Problems with rape and sexual harassment at festivals have increased significantly in recent years. The need for a simple technical solution regarding safety is both identified and in demand from big and small music festivals and events. Millijoin could not field test Night Owl at Music Goes Further’s festival due to the event being postponed. Since then more time has been dedicated to the research and implementation of the actual prototype and there is a plan for further development of the project.

Expected results and effects

A successful proof of concept was completed. A concrete specification of the finalized product, in both design and technology, has been defined. During the development process the team has internalized invaluable know-how about certification and acquired contacts within hardware production. Beyond the team’s expectations, there has been a lot of media coverage on the project, which led to increased interest from several festival organizers. Future tests provide valuable insights for the further development of Night Owl, regarding both technology and user experience for phase 2.

Planned approach and implementation

The project goals specified in the application have been fulfilled: proof of concept was tested successfully, the mobile application is up and running and the web interface is fully functional. All parties involved have held regular meetings to continuously evaluate the project´s progress and development. The close collaboration between Millijoin, Music Goes Further and a hardware producer (POND) has been the key to reaching an attractive solution for festivals and events, as well as executing the plan for advancing the project during phase 2 of Innovative Startups.
