Call BioInnovation: Hypothesis testing step 1 - Innovative project with higher risk

Important results from the project

The goal of the hypothesis testing was to define a concept and test a new construction system with KL Hybrider that saves forest and streamlines the construction process and improves important properties for the customer. We wanted to document properties and advantages in a Prospectus that facilitates the process of finding Partners to further develop and industrialize this concept. Based on this test, we now have a letter of intent with a KL wood producer to test on a larger scale.

Expected long term effects

The measurement of the step sound and air sound insulation, which was carried out with Scandinavian Fibre Boards wood fiber board in combination with KL wood, was carried out in three extensive series. The goal was to test different thicknesses and densities of the wood fiber insulation. We wanted to test whether the result could be even a little better when the discs were included inside the KL disc. For the footsteps, positive resultswere indicated. For the air sound insulation, the result was too even and the test method needs to be adjusted.

Approach and implementation

The measurement was carried out in the field in a horizontal joist opening in a concrete joist. The test pieces were 50x50 cm and the opening was 45x45 cm. A rubber strip was placed around the opening to seal and the area around the test piece was covered with insulating mats. The step sound test gave positive results as we expected. The air sound test did not give the results we wanted. The values were too even and not spread out enough on the decibel scale. This was probably due to too small sample pieces.
